Who Can Audition:
The Audition Process:
The Doo Wop Shop holds auditions during the first week of September. The audition process includes three days of auditions (you only need to attend one session) and one day of call backs. At auditions, you will be asked to fill out a form that helps us get to know you better. Each person must sing a verse and a chorus of a song of their choice, as well as some scales to determine vocal range. After hearing you sing, we will ask you some more questions and let you know of any additional information. If you receive a callback, you will be notified by phone or email.
**Please refrain from singing choral-like pieces for your solo**
Callbacks:
At callbacks, we break everyone up into voice parts and teach one of our songs. We will run it through a few times and then have you sing it with us. We will be listening for blend, accuracy, and intonation, while also paying attention to how you interact with the group. Additionally, we will have a time for each person to sing a verse and chorus from a song other than what they auditioned with.
When this is completed, we will begin the deliberation process which may include extra singing, conversations, a one-on-one badminton match, etc. Once we have made our decisions, we will notify you one by one.
A Final Note:
When you are auditioning, it is important to relax and have fun! The Doo Wop Shop prides itself on being not only a talented, professional quality group, but also a group of guys who like to have fun. So relax, smile, and sing your heart out- we can't wait to see you all there!
- Any male-identifying singer attending UMass Amherst
- Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors - doesn't make a difference to us!
- Any and all voice parts. We'll also be more than excited to hear some vocal percussion!
