Singers from the original Disney Medley on reaching 2,000,000 views (nov. of 2012)
Christopher Kazarian - Circle of Life
Dear Doo Wop Shop Fans, You guys are excellent. It's been two years since the video was released and a year since I transfered colleges, and I tell ya it hasn't been easy being an up and coming musician/broke college student. Going in and out of jobs, barely making enough to eat, and yet studying hard and performing as often as I can. You guys keep me going. You have no idea how happy, encouraged, and alive it makes me feel to get the countless simple messages like; "Keep singing" or "Sorry if this is just way too random. . . but your solo on the Disney Medley Video was fabulous." or "I just discovered The Shop on YouTube and you guys are amazing!" are so awesome and uplifting. There's even a girl out there who emails me every now and then who has made graphic designs out of the titles of my original songs. You guys are a benevolent source of inspiration, and joy, and these days I seldom feel insecure about myself as a musician, cause I have you guys!! And I know I speak for all of my Doo Wop Shop brethren when I say we love you from the bottom of our hearts. Keep on sending messages. Keep on talking about us. Keep on watching . Big Crazy Froad out Thank you to everybody!! -Christopher Kazarian
Tim Colby - Go the Distance
Hi everybody, I just wanted to say thank you for being the best fans out there! None of us ever thought our Disney Medley would become so popular. We knew a lot of people would enjoy hearing songs from their childhood, but it was always about the music and having fun. A lot of hard work went into the arranging process/learning parts/polishing nuances, because we wanted it to sound great and work with the group's sound. Every minute of that process was a blast! Even when we disagreed about something, it was fun to experiment and try singing different endings, for example. Performing the medley has given us lots of good memories too. And we've performed it many, many times! I can't tell you how many times three to five of us were asked to sing the Disney Medley in public/social settings, and we gave it our best shot. There were some interesting versions, and I admit I had a lot of fun trying to do Ariel as well as Ron, but it never worked out like the original! Thanks again everyone for all your support! I hope the Disney Medley continues to bring back great memories for you, like it does for us. -Tim
Ian McCracken - Wanna Be Like You
Hey there viewers, With your help today we hit the 2,000,000 view mark. It truly is amazing to see the capabilities of a simple video in the hands of very complex, social and online networks. I never thought that our song (originally sung for around 150 ppl) could reach so many. At first I tried to comprehend the number by imagining a stadium of people as our views, but we are starting to surpass the biggest stadiums of the world. Now I have to use the population of small countries. If every fan was from Slovenia then they all could have seen it once (maybe this is actually true?). Shoutout to all our international friends as well. The positive feedback and responses to this song is what really makes it so special. To hear that to some of you this song can improve your mood and even your day is the best form of success a performer can know. Thank you all.
-Ian
Geoff Herrmann - Strangers Like Me
Dear Shop groupies, I never even dreamed that we would ever be at this point. We all knew the Disney Medley was something special when we were working on it, but we had no idea how special it would become. After every performance, big or small, or every time even I watch the video, I am amazed by the response that you guys have given us: from the catcalls and laughs in the audience to the hilarious comments on Youtube about the "cute redhead" (how I became a ginger in your eyes I ill never know), or "you guys were on TV in Brazil" of all places, or the "perfect arc". Honestly sometimes I think that Alec's arc is more famous than the Medley (and it deserves it!). Thank you so much for making the Doo Wop Shop who it is today. Without you guys we would have just been a bunch of dudes goofing around in classrooms late at night pretending to be Disney princesses. Instead we are part of an amazing legacy that continues to reach almost 2 million people. And we will keep on singing for all of you as long as you are there to listen. It's what we live for. So thank you all for being the greatest fans anyone could ask for, and for loving and sharing the Disney Medley with the world. -Geoff Herrmann
Keais Pope - Be a Man
Dear Shop Fans, Im glad we've brightened a few people's lives. Definitely miss singing with the group and hope this inspires ya'll to get involved with music and Acapella. Thanks for all the support and love. -Keais
Alec Hutson - Prince Ali
Dear Doo Wop Shop fans, Whats up? I don't think we've been properly acquainted, but I know who you are. See, I've been a fan of you ever since I joined this silly little a cappella group four and a half years ago. Those first days were pretty unbelievable - meeting some of my closest friends and discovering that, together, we could do these things with our voices called "harmonies" (HAR.mon.ies), all while shirking our schoolwork and having a blast. Dearest fans, not much has changed now that I am out of school - I am still making music and dumb little jokes while you sit in the audience or at your computers and chortle or tap your feet or smile to yourselves, although I must say...you've gotten bigger and louder. I assure you this is a wonderful thing. But as our Disney Medley rapidly approaches 2 MILLION views (is that even possible? I feel like numbers that high are reserved for Justin Beiber and Adele), I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sticking with me, with us, this whole time. If I got a dollar for every time I would browse through the YouTube comments or my personal messages to justify my continued pursuit of a musical career, it still not be anywhere near enough to pay off my student loans. But it would definitely be enough for several cups of coffee, a thing of Doritos and some new guitar strings. And for that, I thank you. Keep being awesome. You are doing the world a favor. -Alec "The Arc Guy" Hutson
Jake Digregorio - Gaston
Dear Doo Wop Shop fans, Thank you for everything. To this day, I am humbled at the response and praise for the Doo Wop Shop Disney Medley. I still check the video every day for new comments. I would like to give a special shout out to Jaime Lynn Beatty of StarKid, for blessing it with the popularity it currently enjoys, by posting it on her tumblr. Creating the Disney Medley was a process. I still remember when Alec, Chris, Tim and I were in a dorm basement, arguing for over an hour over the transition from “Circle of Life” into “I Can Go the Distance”. I remember the group learning “Kiss the Girl” while we were backstage, about to go on in five minutes for another show. I remember arranging “Strangers Like Me” in the middle of my bio lecture. I remember announcing, by email, that we would be learning a Disney Medley, and receiving a reply five seconds later from Keais, calling dibs on “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”. Thank you for all of your support! I really had the time of my life with these guys, and I’m glad we could pass some of that happiness on to you. Stay young at heart! -Jake DiGregorio
Justin Husted - Kiss the Girl
Doo Wop Shop Fans, I would just like to let you all know that working on and performing this medley was one of the greatest experiences I have at umass and it I know it means so much to us all that so many people enjoy watching us just do what we love to do. This medley has truly brought us closer together in the few times we've gotten to perform it and I'm glad that it speaks to you all in so many different ways. Thank you for all your support and love. -Justin
Ron Vorce - Part of Your World
Dear Superfans, Not gonna lie...hitting 2 million views is definitely freaking me out The fact that thousands of people every hour are watching a video of me and my friends sing in the basement of the physics building at UMass blows my mind xD I'm happy that you all seem to be have a personal connection with the Disney Medley cuz let's face it, these are not only some the best songs ever written but also significant portions of our youth; cornerstones of our musical and moral development You have been so supportive and awesome and I want to thank you for that. I am honored to have called these men my brothers for the last three and a half years and to have the opportunity to bond as group, create music and touch lives. It has truly changed my life and all of you have been a part of it. Keep singin' and stay young at heart, -Ron *Ariel* Vorce
